Former Manchester United defender Daley Blind has joined Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on a short-term deal till the end of the current 2022/23 season. The veteran was a free agent after his previous contract with Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam had been terminated by mutual consent.
Blind, who can operate both as a left back and a left sided centre-back, is effectively injury cover for Lucas Hernandez, who injured himself on international duty with France at the World Cup. Blind himself was part of the Netherlands’ 2022 WC squad and played every game for the Oranje as they won their group and reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual winners Argentina on penalties.
Blind, who has been capped 99 times by the Netherlands, joins fellow national team mates Matthijs de Ligt and Ryan Gravenberch at the Allianz Arena. De Ligt, Blind and Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui (also currently at Bayern) were all part of the Ajax side that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League back in 2019 before losing a dramatic last four tie to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Bavarian giants currently lead the Bundesliga, four points ahead of second placed Freiburg. They will play Leipzig in their first league game after the winter break.
