Italian champions Inter Milan have emerged as favorites to sign Samuel Eto’o from European champions Barcelona. England’s richest club Manchester City were also tracking the Cameroonian international and reports suggested that they were in pole position to get his services. But the lure of playing in the Champions League with Inter proved too much to resist.
The deal also sees Inter striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic move to the Nou Camp. FC Barcelona have supposedly offered 9 million pounds plus Samuel Eto’o for the services of Ibrahmiovic. Ibrahimovic has agreed terms with Barcelona and the deal hinges on Samuel Eto’o agreeing terms with the Italian giants.
The wages demanded by Eto’o could prove to be a stumbling block. Eto’o is demanding for 65 million over the next 5 years, which is a ludicrously high sum of money. Last summer, Eto’o was told by new coach Guardiola that he could leave the Nou Camp with Ronaldinho and Deco. But a strong pre-season gave him a spot in Guardiola’s dream team. With just one year left on his contract, Barcelona are willing to cash in on Eto’o and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him wearing the Inter blue next season.
