Premier League winners and Champions League runners up Manchester United have accepted an £80m bid from Real Madrid for star forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real have been given permission to speak to Ronaldo, a player who has been linked with Los Merengues for a very long time, and the deal is expected to be concluded by the end of this month.
United said that the decision was taken after Ronaldo ” once again stated his desire to leave”
If the deal does go through, Ronaldo will become the world’s most expensive player. Real spent £56m ( 65 million euros) to sign Brazilian Kaka from AC Milan last week, and the signing of Ronaldo will take their total transfer spending to over £130m.
With £80m, United might be able to lure Franck Ribery, another Real target, away from the Allianz Arena. Another option is prolific French forward Karim Benzema, who plays for Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais.
