Two important developments have taken place at Anfield in the last 24 hours, and both could have significant impact on Liverpool’s progress till the end of the season.
Firstly, Liverpool have turned down an official transfer request from their star forward Fernando Torres. The Spaniard, who is the heartbeat of Liverpool’s attack has grown disillusioned at the state of affairs at Anfield and was subject of a massive £35 million bid by Chelsea. The club reiterated their desire to keep Torres and issued an official statement on the lines of , “Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool. Fernando is under long term contract and the Club expect him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement.”
The Reds also agreed a fee of around £22.8 million for Ajax’s Uruguyan forward Luis Suarez. The player is yet to decide personal terms with Liverpool and is due to undergo a medical at Anfield on Saturday. Suarez’s imminent arrival will enable Torres to play more freely and reduce the goal-scoring burden from his shoulders. Suarez has a lethal eye for goal. He has scored 111 times in 159 games for the Dutch giants since joining them in 2007.
