Arsenal have officially completed the signing of rising Norwegian star Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid. The 22-year-old has moved to the Emirates till the end of the 2021/22 campaign and is the club’s second loan acquisition from Real Madrid this season after Spaniard Dani Ceballos.
Despite his unquestionable talent, Odegaard has found first team football hard to come by in the Spanish capital. There were plenty of clubs interested in a transfer- fellow La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, who had him on loan last season, were happy to take him back again, as were European champions Ajax, but a personal call from Mikel Arteta swung the deal Arsenal’s way.
Real signed the midfielder from Stromsgodet in his native Norway back in 2015, but he has made only eight league appearances for them so far. He has also had loan spells in the Netherlands with Vitesse and Heerenveen.
Odegaard has already been capped 25 times by Norway at senior level and is also the country’s youngest ever player.
Arsenal currently occupy a mid-table position in the Premier League and beat Southampton 3-1 in their last fixture. Their next game is against bitter rivals Manchester United this weekend.
