Belgian champions Standard Liege have rejected a bid for midfielder Steven Defour from Everton. The club are believed to want £12.6 million for their star midfielder, but Everton’s bid is believed to be lowered than that figure.
Defour told HLN “How high was the bid? I do not know, you would need to ask Luciano D’Onofrio [Standard vice-president] that question,”
However the 21 year old is happy to stay at the Belgian champions with Champions League football on the table next season. He continued “For now I wait quietly, I feel good at Standard, especially now we are in the Champions League,”
“But I would be ready to move abroad, but the transfer will come when all parties are happy.”
He is highly rated throughout Europe and it looks likely that he will leave Liege this summer after major speculation about his future.
David Moyes is looking to strengthen his squad for a challenge on the top four next season and a central midfielder looks likely to be top of his hit list. Liverpool and Aston Villa have also shown an interest in Defour this summer, but it’s the Toffee’s who have made the first move and could up their bid to capture the players signature.
