Scottish giants Rangers have announced that they have agreed a fee with Aston Villa for the transfer of Carlos Cuellar. The Spanish defender, who joined Villa from Rangers from 2008 and has one year left on his contract, has fallen down the pecking order in the Midlands, and will now discuss personal terms with the Gers over a permanent switch.
One stumbling block in Cuellar’s possible return to Rangers is his wages. He reportedly earns £40,000 a week at Villa Park and Rangers are prepared to offer him only around £25,000 a week. The transfer fee agreed by Rangers and Aston Villa was not disclosed, but reports have it to be somewhere around the £2m mark.
Rangers will open their title defence against Hearts next Saturday.
