Juventus sign Villa star

Juventus have officially confirmed the signing of Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa. The Brazilian midfielder has moved to Turin for a reported 50-million-euro fee, and has put pen to paper a five-year-deal that will see him stay in Italy till the summer of 2029.

Luiz’s sale is viewed by many as an attempt by Villa to comply with the Premier League’s PSR rules (Profit and Sustainability regulations). The transfer has also seen Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea move in the other direction, with Juve getting 22 million euros from Villa for the duo.

Luiz started his career with Vasco da Gama in his native Brazil before joining Man City. He had a stint on loan at Girona before joining Villa in 2019.

The medio has made more than 200 appearances for Villa, including 53 last season alone as Unai Emery’s men finished fourth in the Premier League and qualified for the 2024/25 Champions League. Juve will also play in the UCL next season after finishing third in Serie A in 2023/24.

Luiz is currently on duty with the Brazilian national team at Copa America, where they have drawn 0-0 with Costa Rica and beaten Paraguay 4-1 so far.
