Official- Sunderland sign Fraizer Campbell

Sunderland have signed striker Fraizer Campbell from Premier League champions Manchester United for £3.5m. The fee could rise to £6m in the future. Campbell thus becomes new Sunderland boss Steve Bruce’s first summer signing.

Campbell is a product of the Manchester United youth academy, and was sent on loan to feeder club Royal Antwerp in 2006. In 2007, he was loaned out to Hull City ( then in the Championship), and scored fifteen goals for the Humbersiders as they earned promotion to the top flight.

In 2008, Campbell went to White Hart Lane on a season long loan as part of the deal that brought Dimitar Berbatov to the Theatre of Dreams. He helped Spurs reach the Carling Cup final, but was ineligible to play in it.

Hull had also reportedly made a £6m bid for Campbell, who was part of the England U-21 team that finished second in the European Championships in Sweden.

Campbell has signed a four year contract with the Black Cats.
