After making headlines for signing a host of new players in the close season, City have finally let one go. Manchester City forward Felipe Caicedo has joined Potugese side Sporting Lisbon on a one year loan deal. Sporting will announce the deal once the Ecuadorian passes his medical.
Felipe Caicedo joined Manchester City for €7 million during Sven Goran Eriksson’s reign and never really was able to adapt to the Premier League. He made 27 appearances for City under Mark Hughes but could manage to score only five times. With the arrival of big name strikers at City of Manchester Stadium, Caicedo was pushed further down in the pecking order. With Sporting playing their Champions League qualifier next Wednesday, they would like him to train as soon as possible. And he may get a chance to test himself in the Champions League, something that he was never able to achieve at City.
“Sporting Clube de Portugal hereby announces that a pre-agreement has been reached with Manchester City Football Club for the loan of the player Felipe Caicedo for one season. The definitive agreement depends on the undertaking of medical tests,” the club statement read.
