Former Sunderland AFC midfielder Grant Leadbitter has opted for a return back to the North-East after signing for Middlesbrough. The 26 year old made the switch from Ipswich Town ( on a free transfer) and has put pen to paper a three year contract at Riverside.
Leadbitter becomes Boro’s first signing of the summer and is expected to fill the void left by Barry Robson’s departure from Riverside. Manager Tony Mowbray turned his attention to Leadbitter after cooling his interest in Jacob Butterfield, who seems set for a move to Reading.
Leadbitter started his career at Sunderland and also spent time on loan at Rotherham. He has been capped by England at U-21 level.
