Aston Villa agree Delph fee

Aston Villa have agreed a fee with Leeds for highly-rated young midfielder Fabien Delph. The fee has yet to be revealed, but Leeds boss Simon Grayson confirmed that two bids from Premier League clubs were rejected at the weekend, as neither of the bids were near the Yorkshire sides valuation of the England Under-21 star.

Delph has been linked with Manchester City, Everton and Tottenham, but its Villa who have jumped to the head of the queue for the youngster with their bid being accepted. Delph is expected to travel down to Birmingham in the next few days to have a medical and discuss personal terms.

The other clubs could still yet make a move for the star, but the lure of European football next season could be too much for the youngster to resist. Martin O’Neill is desperate to strengthen his squad after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.

The Irishman already had a small squad, but its got smaller with Martin Laursen retiring, Zat Knight leaving for Bolton and reserve keeper Stuart Taylor joining Manchester City. He now has the task of adding both quality and quantity to his talented squad. Delph would be a good addition to his Champions League chasing squad.
