New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is set to make a late attempt to hijack Manchester United’s bid for young Crewe Alexandra starlet Nick Powell. Arsenal were also interested in the services of the youngster, but it has been understood that Powell would prefer to stay in the North-West and that leaves United and Liverpool as the only serious candidates left in the fray.
United have reportedly agreed a fee of £2m+ ( with addons taking the deal to £5m) with Crewe and have been given permission to talk to Powell. However Rodgers, who recently left Swansea City to take over as manager at Liverpool, is willing to eclipse any offer United have made in order to land the 18 year old youngster, who is being hailed as a future England great.
