According to English newspapers Manchester United could be set to strengthen their defence with a double signing in January. The players involved are believed to be Everton left-back Leighton Baines and Torino centre-back Angelo Ogbonna.
Baines has been one of the most consistent left-backs in the Premier League in the last few seasons and was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to add competition for places at left-back with Patrice Evra’s form being patchy in recent months and new signing Alexander Buttner yet to convince.
United have also endured problems at centre-back this season, with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling all suffering from injuries this season. Ogbonna is a talented centre-back, born in Nigeria, but represents Italy at international level.
The young defender is highly-rated and has already been linked with a move to Serie A champions Juventus. Ferguson is not fan of spending money in January, but needs to strengthen his leaky defence.
