Dindane passes Pompey medical

Racing Club de Lens forward Aruna Dindane is set to join south coast club Portsmouth after passing his medical at Fratton Park. Dindane, who partners Didier Drogba for Ivory Coast can play up front or on the flanks and will provide much needed reinforcement to Paul Hart’s squad. Dindane has been offered a two-year contract with an option of extension for another year.

Pompey have seen Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe depart the club since last December, thereby quality of the striking options available to Hart and have begun their Premier League campaign with three consecutive defeats to Fulham, Birmingham City and Arsenal.

Dindane’s Ivory Coast compatriot Steve Gouhori is also set to train with Pompey for a week and hope to secure a deal with the club at the end of the trial. Gouhori landed in England on Sunday and will train for the entire duration of the week. He is currently a free agent after being released by German club Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the season.

Paul Hart also indicated that Pompey are in the market for a striker –

“I don’t like losing and it’s difficult when we do,” he told the club’s official website.

“But I get my lift from the players. If I had a group who were lying down and feeling sorry for themselves then I wouldn’t have anything. But that’s not the case. I look at their faces and there’s disappointment. They’re disappointed that we haven’t scored more goals.

“We created 15 chances against Fulham and lose to a goal that’s gone in off someone’s backside.

“I think we’ve been extremely well organised and disciplined in the three games we’ve had. We should have got more from those games. But we’re still giving it a go.
