Everton have agreed a reported fee of £5million for Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin. The 31 year-old is currently on Merseyside having a medical and is expected to sign a three-year deal at Goodison Park. The former Manchester City defender has chosen the Toffee’s ahead of Aston Villa.
Everton chief executive Robert Elstone revealed that the deal is nearly done on the clubs official website saying: “After Sylvain made it clear his preferred destination was Goodison, the chairman [Bill Kenwright] moved quickly to finalise the deal – and Sylvain is now on his way to Merseyside to undergo a medical,”
Everton boss David Moyes has already revealed that he is expecting to make four signings or more before the transfer window shuts on 1st September. He has still money to spend after the sale of defender Joleon Lescott to Manchester City £24million.
Aston Villa meanwhile have swooped for Manchester City defender Richard Dunne, after missing out on Distin. The former Everton player has fallen down the pecking order at City with the arrival of Lescott and also Kolo Toure from Arsenal.
