Everton are set to complete the £5million signing of Atletico Madrid defender John Heitinga. The Toffee’s are reported to have agreed a fee with the La Liga club for the Dutch international. It will now be a race against time to get all the paperwork signed before Tuesday’s transfer deadline. He currently earns more than the wage structure at Goodison Park, but manager David Moyes seems determined to get his man.
The 25 year-old already has great experience at both club and international level, winning 47 caps for the Netherlands. He only joined Atletico last summer for £7million from Eredivise side Ajax, but has failed to settle in the Spanish capital.
Everton David Moyes is still looking to strengthen his small squad, but it looks like he could abandon his pursuit of Valencia midfielder Ever Banega, after it emerged that the youngster had been doing unsavoury activities on a website.
His club Valencia also now want to keep the Argentinian international with Los Ches currently suffering a lack of options. The Spanish club have also reported received an offer from a German club for the permanent transfer of the player.
The Everton chief could turn to other options such as Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley, who is also being linked with a move to fellow Premier League club Stoke City. Cardiff manager Dave Jones however has revealed he will only sell for the right price.
