Hull failed to bring in Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood on a season-long loan deal on Tuesday deadline day. The former West Ham striker thought the deal would go through, only for the move to collapse at the last minute.
Harewood’s agent Phil Sproson told the Hull Daily Mail: “Having taken the call from Phil I really thought the deal was going to happen, but that’s football and this is what can happen on deadline day,”
“I travelled to Villa having spoken to Phil and they were happy for the deal to go ahead and it was all sorted at their end.
“I tried calling Phil back during the afternoon several times, but we heard nothing more.
“It is strange as Hull seemed interested when we spoke early in the afternoon, but Marlon will move on from this and will bounce back.
“If Hull had wanted this deal Marlon would be there now, that’s 100 per cent.”
Hull also missed out on Manchester City striker Benjani. The two clubs had agreed a fee and a deal looked likely to go through. However 31 year-old Zimbabwean turned down the personal terms offered at the KC Stadium. The striker is unlikely to get much first time action at City this season, due to the arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz.
