Paris Saint Germain striker Peguy Luyindula has signed a contract extension which will see him stay with Lyon till 2012. The Frenchman has made a promising start to the new season scoring twice in PSG’s first four games. It has been a fruitful year for Peguy who was deemed surplus to requirements at the end of last year. But a pleasant turnaround in fortunes over the last six months has seen PSG offer him a new contract, which the player duly accepted.
After signing from Marseille in 2007, Luyindula has scored only 13 times in 70 appearances for PSG. But the rise in his form over the last six months has seen him start regularly for Raymond Domenech’s France team. Luyindula expressed contentment with his new contract-
“I’ve waited impatiently for this moment,” the player said. “It’s happened and I’m enjoying it.”
Meanwhile, left winger Jerome Rothen has joined Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers on a one-year loan deal with the option of making the move permanent for €1 million at the end of the loan period. Rothen played for his hometown club PSG for five years after signing from AS Monaco in 2004 for €11 million. Rothen reportedly rejected an offer from Blackburn Rovers as he looks to make a final push to be in France’s World Cup Squad.
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Rangers, a massive club with a great history,” he said.
“I have been very impressed with everything and now look forward to a new chapter in my life.
“I did have other offers from Schalke and Blackburn, but I just felt that Rangers offered something different.
“Playing in the Champions League is, of course, great for the club, but there is also a big chance to win trophies in Scotland.”
