As mentioned earlier on football-tranfsfers.co.uk, Middlesbrough have snapped up Hull striker Caleb Folan on a three-month loan deal with a view to make the move permanent. Folan has dropped in the pecking order at Hull City after the arrival of Jozy Altidore and Jan Venegoor of Hesselink and hence moves to the Championship with a view of getting some regular playing time under him. Folan is expected to go straight into the Middlesbrough squad for this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash with West Brom.
Meanwhile, Folan lashed out at Hull boss Brown after he suggested that Folan never looked like being able to score in the Premier League –
“I was a bit surprised to hear the manager’s comments, but I understand they may have been taken out of context. From my point of view, I just hope to do well for Boro, make the move permanent and be playing Premier League football with them next season. Like everyone else in football, managers have different opinions. Phil Brown has made his clear. But I can take consolation in the different opinions shown by Gareth Southgate and Giovanni Trapattoni.”
Also, Newcastle United have completed the three-month loan signing of Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili. The Georgian has not been part of Sam Allardyce’s plans making just one appearance for Rovers this season in the League Cup win at Gillingham.
Newcastle boss Chris Hughton was quick to swoop for the defender after his side suffered their first loss of the season against Blackpool. Zurab will go straight into the Newcastle squad for next week’s clash against Plymouth.
