Colchester snap up Kayode Odejayi

League One club Colchester United have secured the signing of Nigerian striker Kayode Odejayi on a three month loan deal with a view to making the move permanent. Just as the Ipswich squad is being filled with ex-Sunderland players, Colchester United have signed yet another ex-Chaltenham Town player.

Odejayi, who has a solitary Nigeria cap to his name, played for Chaltenham from 2003-2007 scoring 30 goals in 147 appearances. His move to Barnsley was an unsuccessful one as he managed to score only four goals in 72 games and was loaned out at various clubs.

Barnsley boss Mark Robins said: “Kayode (Odejayi) needs to kick start his career. He will go to Colchester for an initial three months and we will take it from there.”

Odejayi is most famous for scoring the winner against Chelsea for Barnsley in a FA Cup quarter final tie two years ago. He will join the likes of Steven Gillespie and Ashley Vincent – both of whom are former Chaltenham players.

Colchester gaffer Adrian Bothroyd has also secured the loan signing of Wolves youngester Danny Batth. He joins on a short-term loan deal as Pat Baldwin, Paul Reid and Lee Beewers have been sidelined through injury.
