Former England defender Sol Campbell has left League Two side Notts County after just one appearance for the Magpies. The former Arsenal and Tottenham star has only been at the club for a few weeks after signing a lucrative five-year deal at Meadow Lane.
Campbell left Portsmouth this summer after deciding to move on. The decision to sign for County was a surprise move to say the least, but it was reported that he was happy to be joining up with former England boss Sven Goran-Eriksson who is the clubs director of football. His sole appearance for County came in a 2-1 defeat to North West side Morecambe.
Executive chairman Peter Trembling has confirmed Campbell’s exit on the clubs official website saying: “While we are disappointed that Sol felt that he could not adjust to the long-term nature of the project underway at Notts County, we obviously wish him the best with the remainder of his career and hope that he is able to obtain a place where he can play at international level ahead of the 2010 World Cup,”
“The investment project is on track; we’ve brought in a lot of new players and resources into the club, but obviously this is a five-year project, not a five-week one.”
