Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has revealed they are interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg striker Marc Janko in January. The club have received a big financial boost with new chairman Carson Young promising a £40million transfer kitty in the transfer window.
The Scot told the Birmingham Mail: “Janko is on a real hot goalscoring streak, he has a big presence. He’s maybe not yet the same kind of level as Peter Crouch, he’s trying to be that kind of player. These players like him are out there, but can we get them to come to the club? That’s the question.”
City have also been linked with Wolfsburg pair Grafite and Edin Dezko as well as Hoffenheim strikers Vedad Ibisevic and Chinedu Obasi. However the City boss believes it will take a few years before the club are at that level to sign players in their bracket.
He added: “If we get to an Everton status in years to come then we could entice the Dzeko’s of this world.
“There are some hidden gems out there who won’t cost lots of pennies, but you’re probably looking at £15million for Dzeko, Grafite £10million. The Hoffenheim strikers would probably cost £10million plus as well.”
