Redknapp denies Ferdinand rumours

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has moved quickly to deny rumours that he is preparing a bid for Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand. The former Pompey boss did however concede that he thinks Ferdinand is the best defender in the world.

Ferdinand has suffered some criticism in recent weeks for a drop in form. He hasn’t experienced such criticism since the start of his career and these rumours linking him with a move away from Old Trafford continue to rumble on. Since moving to the champions Ferdinand has shed his casual manner and became one of the best centre-backs in the world.

Redknapp said: “There’s no chance of him leaving there if he has any sense. Unless someone knows something I don’t know, he won’t be coming here. I speak to him and send him messages. For me he’s still the best centre-half in the world, he’s that good. Everyone has a blip.”

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has came out in defence of his player saying:

“I’m not going into that because I read the stuff in the newspapers and I hear he is going to be dropped and all this but I don’t think you have access to my mind,”

“You can try and pick my teams but you will never pick my teams, try as much as you like. I don’t know where it is coming from. I just have to put it down to the modern culture of humiliating people which you do very well and all the rest of it. I’m not getting into it.”
