Belgian star interested in returning to Europe

A little over a year after signing for Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang, Belgian star Yannick Carrasco has said he would love to return to Europe. The 25-year-old made the comments in an interview to Belgian paper HLN, and added he had been keen on leaving Asia in January, but the club decided against letting him go.

Carrasco’s two previous European stints, with Monaco in the French top flight and Atletico Madrid in La Liga, have been quite successful and there will be plenty of clubs interested in the Belgian international should he decide to return. One of those will be Unai Emery’s Arsenal, who have been heavily linked with him in the past.

Since moving to China, Carrasco has lost his starting spot in the Belgian national team, with most of his appearances restricted to coming off the bench. He was an unused substitute for both of Belgium’s games against England at the World Cup, as well as their quarterfinal against Brazil.

In Belgium’s most recent Euro 2020 qualifiers, Carrasco didn’t feature in the 3-1 win against Russia and only got 20 minutes as a second half sub against Cyprus after the Red Devils had gone 2-0 up. Carrasco is contracted to Dalian till 2022.
