Aston Villa will attempt to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on a permanent deal if they earn promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs. The 21 year-old, currently on loan at Villa Park, has been a major reason for their success this season, with his 26 goals across all competitions comfortably making him the club’s top scorer.
Villa finished fifth in the regular Championship season and hold a narrow advantage over Midlands rivals West Brom after prevailing 2-1 in the first leg of their playoff semifinal. They are aiming to return to the Premier League after a gap of three years, having been relegated at the end of the 2015/16 season.
If Villa do get the better of Albion, they’ll meet either Leeds or Derby County in the final. Last season, they faltered at the final step, going down 1-0 to Fulham.
Villa will reportedly stump up close to £25m for making Abraham’s stay at Villa Park a permanent one.
Norwich and Sheffield United have already been guaranteed promotion, while Cardiff, Fulham and Huddersfield will drop down to the Championship next season after being relegated from the Premier League.
