Sevilla striker Javier Chevanton will join Italian Serie A side Atalanta on loan in January. The loan deal will mean that the Uruguayan international will stay in Italy for the remainder of the season. The striker is currently out of favour at the La Liga side and has made just one appearance the league this season. The loan includes a clause to make the move permanent in the summer.
Sevilla released a statement which read: “Chevanton will join Atalanta on loan from 2nd January until the end of the season,”
“Atalanta reserves the option to buy the player once the loan spell ends. Sevilla has given permission for Chevanton to train with his new team-mates although the loan deal will not be effective until January.”
Chevanton has been at the club for three years since joining from Monaco in 2006 but had previously spent three years at Italian side Lecce before joining the side from the principality. Hes hoping to put his injury problems behind him and reignite his stalled career in Serie A.
“I have one further year left in my contract with Sevilla,” said Chevanton.
“These six months will be good for me to prove and display what I am capable of doing. I haven’t been lucky in Sevilla, mainly due to injuries. Unfortunately, I have not been able to triumph here but I will always carry Sevilla in my heart.”
