According to reports from Italy, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in pole position to sign Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne. The 30-year-old is out of contract next summer and Lilywhites boss Antonio Conte is keen to bring him to North London, potentially even as early as January instead of waiting till the summer if a move can be agreed.
Insigne has been linked with a variety of clubs- Newcastle, Inter, Juve and even Toronto in the MLS, but the presence of Fabio Paratici and Conte at Spurs could swing things the Lilywhites’ way. Napoli boss Aurelio di Laurentiis is also said to prefer Insigne leaving for an English club rather than letting him go to a domestic rival.
Insigne rose through the youth ranks at Napoli and has been at Stadio San Paolo since 2006. He has racked up over 400 appearances across all competitions for the Partenopei and has also had loan stints at Pescara, Cavese and Foggia.
Insigne was a member of the Italian team that won the 2020 European Championships last summer at Wembley.
Napoli are currently 4th in Serie A, four points behind leaders Inter Milan. They will face Barcelona in the playoff round of the Europa League later this season.
