Middlesbrough accept Johnson bid

Middlesbrough have accepted a bid from Manchester City for promising winger Adam Johnson. Boro didn’t want to sell the young winger but need the funds that Johnson’s exit would provide. Johnson also admitted over the weekend that he wished to move to Eastlands. The fee has yet to be revealed.

There is still some way to go with the deal but both sides are confident that the deal will be completed before the transfer window shuts at 5pm. Johnson has travelled to meet City officials and discuss personal terms. It will be a race against time for the 22-year old to have his medical and sign his contract.

Boro will be looking to use some of the money brought in from Johnson’s sale to buy strikers Lee Miller and Scot McDonald. Boro are in desperately in need of more firepower and boss Gordon Strachan hopes to tie up the deals to bring in the duo.

Strachan has already signed young Tottenham full-back Kyle Naughton on-loan till the end of the season. He is also hoping he can complete the loan signing of Japanese international Shunsuke Nakamura from Espanyol. The midfielder only joined the Spanish club in the summer from Celtic but has failed to impress.
