Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is planning a summer move for Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi. The Mackems boss is a long-term admirer of the German international and is hoping to persuade him to move to the Stadium of Light this summer.
The 28 year-old is available on a free transfer this summer when his contract with the Bundesliga club expires. Sunderland will face a battle for his signature though as numerous clubs around Europe are believed to be interested in signing the striker.
Bruce revealed: “Kevin Kuranyi will be linked with every top club in Europe. Let’s be fair, he’s a fantastic player who is playing for a club which is trying to win the Bundesliga,”
“As everybody knows out there, he is the most outstanding Bosman signing probably in Europe, so I would think there must be 25 clubs looking for his signature – and I can confirm we would be interested, of course we would”
Kuranyi has been in superb form in the Bundesliga this season and has scored 18 goals. This has lead for calls for him to be reinstated in the German national side. He was told he would never play again by Germany coach Joachim Loew after a big bust up.
