Liverpool have officially completed the signing of winger Luis Diaz from Porto. The Colombian star has joined for an initial fee of £37m, potentially rising to £49m with add-ons. He has put pen to paper a five-and-a-half-yeardeal that will keep him at Anfield till the summer of 2027.
Diaz will wear the No.23 jersey at Liverpool. He was heavily linked with a switch to Spurs in the winter window but Liverpool, who had originally wanted him next summer, chose to make their move and beat the Lilywhites to his signature.
Coach Jurgen Klopp has been slowly rebuilding his squad with an eye to the future. Diogo Jota has already begun to play more than Roberto Firmino and winger Diaz could potentially do the same to Sadio Mane in the future- the Senegalese star turns 30 in April this year.
Diaz started his career with Barranquilla and Atletico Junior in his native Colombia before making the switch to Porto back in 2019. He has scored 16 goals in 28 appearances for them across all competitions this season.
The 25-year-old has already represented Colombia at international level and helped them to finish third in last year’s Copa America. He was also joint top scorer at the tournament alongside Lionel Messi.
