According to reports, Everton are set to rival AC Milan for the signature of rising French defender Mohammed Simakan. The 20-year-old currently plies his trade for Strasbourg in the French top flight and has been the subject of interest of several other Premier League clubs, with the likes of Wolves and Southampton also keeping tabs on the youngster’s progress.
Simakan is a versatile player- he normally slots in at centre back, but can also play on the right side of defence and as a holding midfielder if required. He has started in all 17 of Strasbourg’s league games so far this campaign, and has also been capped by France at U20 level. He is contracted to RCS till the summer of 2023.
A fee of around £20m is expected to be enough to prise the defender away from Ligue 1. Everton are currently fourth in the Premier League going into Christmas, and will face Sheffield United on Boxing Day.
Milan have had a fabulous start to the 20/21 season, and lead Serie A by a point from bitter rivals Internazionale. They’re also the only Italian side not to have been beaten in the league this season, and saw off Lazio 3-2 in midweek.
