Watford have completed the signing of Danish winger Philip Zinckernagel on a free transfer. The 26-year-old has moved from Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt and has put pen to paper a five-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at Vicarage Road till the end of the 2025/26 season.
The Hornets beat off competition from several European clubs, with the likes of Schalke and Celtic also reportedly interested in the Danish star. He mentioned that the possibility of playing in the Premier League was a big factor in his move to Watford, and added that he had done the move for a sporting challenge, rather than money.
The Hornets were relegated from the top flight at the end of the 19/20 season, but remain well-placed for an immediate return to the Premiership. They are currently 5th in the table, but only four points behind second place Brentford and have a game in hand over the Bees.
Zinckernagel was an integral part of the Bodo/Glimt side that won their first Norwegian top flight title last year. He also featured in the club’s Europa League qualifying campaign earlier this season and scored three goals for them before they bowed out at the hands of AC Milan.
