Izmailov close to Everton switch

David Moyes is on the verge of securing the services of Sporting Lisbon’s midfielder Marat Izmailov. A fee of £4.1 million has been agreed between the two clubs and the player will transfer to Goodison Park subject to a medical.

David Moyes has been a long term admirer of the Russian midfielder. Izmailov’s fall out with new manager Paulo Sergio has helped reignite Moyes’ interest in the player. Izmailov was linked with a £10 million move to Manchester City earlier in the summer, but the switch failed to materialize. Izmailov is keen on switching to Merseyside as he would link up with countryman Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.

After spending eight seasons at Lokomotiv Moskow, Izmailov moved on to Sporting Lisbon in 2008. He played 35 games in his two year stint in Portugal scoring only on four occasions. His ability to play on either wing or as an central attacking midfielder makes him a great asset for any Premier League side. He is also well known for his phenomenal work-rate which endears him to a lot of managers.

If the deal goes through, Marat will become the Toffee’s fifth signing of the season after Jermaine Beckford, Joao Silva, Magaye Gueye and Jan Mucha.
