Manchester United striker Federico Macheda is set to reject overtures from a host of Premier League clubs and join Sampdoria on a loan deal till the end of the season. Sir Alex Ferguson has given him the go ahead to get as much first-team football as possible, as his opportunities at Old Trafford have been limited with the likes of Rooney, Berbatov and Hernandez in front of him.
West Bromwich Albion were the latest Premier League team who offered to take Macheda on loan. But the teenager has his sights set on returning to his homeland. Sampdoria are in need of a striker after their talismanic forward Antonio Cassano sealed a move to AC Milan. Sampdoria president Ricardo Garrone is extremely enthusiastic about Macheda. “Macheda has easily filled the void left by Cassano, he will definitely do well. In these five months we will try to treat him well. With him here, the enthusiasm has increased tenfold,” he said.
