Reports in the London Times suggest that AC Milan are keeping track of Tottenham’s young Welsh defender Gareth Bale. AC Milan have approached Spurs with a swap deal involving Bale and Czech international Marek Jankulovski. Milan have tabled a player plus cash offer for the Welsh international. Their offer currently stands at €5 million plus Jankulovski for the promising left back. Both clubs are locked in negotiations over the deal and with the transfer window opening in January, both clubs will have plenty of time to assess the situation.
Tottenham signed Bale from Southampton for £5 million in 2007. After his move, Bale has been plagued with injuries. He has managed only 24 appearances for them over two years scoring twice from free-kicks. And the steady start made by fellow left-back Benoit Assou Ekkoto has made it difficult for him to break into the first team. The move will represent a bigger challenge for Bale who would play with much better players around him.
Marek Jankulovski’s experience is something that Spurs could do with. Jankulovski’s versatility to play anywhere on the left flank will boost Spurs’ options. After having played in Italy for nine years, a move to the Premiership for a final pay-day would appeal to the 2008 Czech Player of the Year.
