Adebayor in talks with Manchester City

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor could be on the verge of joining Manchester City after the two clubs held discussions over the striker. A fee in the region of £20million is currently being discussed and talks are at an early stage.

The Togo striker has been constantly linked with a move away from the Gunners, including last summer when Italian side AC Milan were keen on signing him, only for the clubs to fail to agree a fee. He has also been linked with some of top sides in Europe this summer.

The move comes as a shock as the 25 year-olds agent had previously stated that he would be staying at the Gunners this summer. It also seems a strange move by Manchester City, with the Citizens set to sign former Manchester united star Carlos Tevez later this week.

Adebayor has a good scoring record since joining the club from Monaco three years ago, scoring 62 goals in 142 appearances, but he has seemed unsettled since the aforementioned move to AC Milan collapsed last summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been linked with Bordeaux’s Moroccan striker Maraoune Chamakh this summer and could renew that interest if Adebayor does make the move to Eastlands. Wenger has also been linked with Fiorentina’s Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo, as well as Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong. The money from the sale of Adebayor could be used to sign some of those targets.
