Amidst intense speculation that the player may transfer to the English Premier League in the January window, Altletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero has come out and pledged his loyalty to the Spanish club. Aguero said, “I have always made my commitment to Atletico clear and the whole world knows it. One shouldn’t pay too much attention to everything that comes out, the only thing I am doing is playing and thinking about the team.”
Aguero’s explanation comes after days of speculation linking the Argentina star with a £40m move to Chelsea. The Blues would be without Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, who would be departing for the African Cup of Nations and Aguero was touted to be the replacement striker. There were also reports linking him to Manchester City, where he would have had the lucrative proposition of pairing up with national team-mate Carlos Tevez.Aguero has been struggling this year with a groin strain and has made only 13 appearances for Atletico, scoring seven goals.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also planning a bid for Aguero’s team mate Maxi Rodriguez. Maxi will be out of contract this summer and has fallen out of favour at the Vicente Calderon. Rodriguez is looking to bolster his World Cup chances with regular first team football, something that he’s not guaranteed of at Atletico. Boca Juniors are also keen to take him to Argentina, but Liverpool are favourites to sign him for a small fee.
