Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam have officially completed the signing of promising teenager Carlos Borges from Premier League champions Manchester City. The winger has moved to the Eredivisie for a fee around the 19 million euro mark (including add-ons), with the deal also including a sell-on clause and a buy-back option for the Citizens.
Borges joined City’s academy from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014, but didn’t make a single senior-team appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side. He has been capped at various youth levels by Portugal and was part of their U19 side that finished runners up to Italy in the European Championships earlier this summer.
The young winger was heavily linked with a move to fellow Premier League side West Ham, but that didn’t materialise and he has now moved to the Eredivisie. Ajax missed out on Champions League football after finishing third in the 22/23 Dutch league behind champions Feyenoord and runners-up PSV Eindhoven.
Borges becomes Ajax’s fourth signing of the summer after Branco van den Boomen, Benjamin Tahirovic and Diant Ramaj.
The Dutch giants currently have former Arsenal and Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat as their Director of Football, with the German having replaced Marc Overmars in April.
