Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam have officially confirmed the signing of Sebastien Haller from West Ham United. The French forward has moved for a fee of 22.5 million euros and has inked a four-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the Amsterdam Arena till the end of the 2024/25 season.
Haller was West Ham’s record signing when he arrived at the London Stadium from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019 but never quite lived up to expectations. There were a couple of spectacular goals here and there, but his work rate and performances were disappointing for Hammers fans, who had been hoping for a 20 goal a season marksman following his exploits in the Bundesliga. He scored seven league goals in the 19/20 campaign and three in the current 20/21 Premier League season, and appeared to be a misfit in David Moyes’ single striker system.
Haller has been capped by France at various youth levels, but chose to make his senior bow with the Ivory Coast national team in November last year.
Ajax currently lead the Eredivisie by a single point from bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven, whom they face this weekend, meaning that Haller could very well end up making his debut in De Topper.
