Alou Diarra swaps Bordeaux for Marseille

Bordeaux stalwart Alou Diarra has completed a transfer to the Ligue 1 club’s title rivals Olympique Marseille. The announcement regarding Diarra, a former Liverpool, Lyon and Bayern Munich player, was made by L’Om on their official website. Media reports in France estimate the transfer fee to be somewhere in the 4.5-5m euro mark. Diarra has put pen to paper a three year contract at Stade Velodrome.

Marseille finished second in Ligue 1 last season behind Lille and Diarra has been their target for a long time now. But Bordeaux, who did a League and Cup double in the 09/10 season, were unwilling to sell their prized asset till now.

Diarra has represented France at both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and is one of Laurent Blanc’s candidates for permanent captaincy of the French national team.
