New Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas is considering a bid for Liverpool’s Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles should his bid for Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric fail. Meireles was one of the few silver clouds to emerge from Liverpool’s dark 2010/11 season but the signing of several midfielders by Kenny Dalglish may result in him having lesser first team football this season at Anfield.
The Portuguese star was not in the starting XI against Sunderland as Dalglish started with Lucas, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam in midfield. And when Steven Gerrard returns from injury, Meireles could find his playing time limited as Dalglish attempts to keep all his summer signings happy.
Meireles used to play for Porto before joining Liverpool, the same club Villas-Boas managed before taking up Chelsea’s offer.
