Arsenal have bolstered their midfield with the acquisition of medio Santi Cazorla from Malaga. Cazorla was instrumental in helping Malaga qualify for the Champions League last season and has moved for a reported fee of £16.5m. The length of the contract he has penned with the Gunners was not revealed by either party.
Cazorla is the latest in a list of high profile recruits made by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as he seeks to end the Gunners’ title drought- he has already brought in Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski.
Cazorla, Spanish player of the year in 2007, wanted to leave Malaga because of the club’s poor financial condition which resulted in them being unable to even pay wages. His move to Arsenal was welcomed by former Gunners star Cesc Fabregas, who posted on Twitter that he was an excellent signing for the North London club.
