According to numerous reputable outlets, Arsenal are pursuing a deal for Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng. With £12.8-millions the figure reported, the Gunners would be getting superb value for money. Although Boateng has lost his place as a permanent fixture in the Bayern Munich back four this season, he is still a vastly experienced player. He won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and has seven Bundesliga titles and a Champions League to his name while in Bavaria.
Boateng has already experienced the Premier League – he spent a year with Manchester City in 2011 after leaving Hamburg the season previous. During this spell in the North of England, Boateng failed to nail down a starting place, a problem he has been experiencing again of late under new Bayern boss Hansi Flick.
David Luiz was signed by previous boss Arsenal Unai Emery in the summer transfer window but, generally, has failed to impress. 18-year-old William Saliba will not join the Arsenal squad until the start of the 2020-21 season. With Arsenal keen to fill a gap in their defence which has been present for the best part of a decade, the move for Boateng would appear to be a sensible deal for all parties.
