After having an initial £10 million bid for Phil Jagielka turned down by Everton, Arsenal will make an improved offer for the 27-year old English centre half. Arsene Wenger is a big fan of Jagielka who joined Everton for £4 million from Sheffield United three years ago. Jagielka signed a five-year deal with the club last year and has four years left on his current contract. Everton boss David Moyes has indicated that Jagielka is not for sale but a £15 million offer by the Gunners may see the Merseysiders willing to negotiate even further. Wenger has already signed French central defender Laurent Koscielny from Lorient but is looking to add more steel in defence.
Meanwhile, Everton are also afraid that they might lose Mikel Arteta to the spending force of Manchester City. In order to prevent him from making a move to City of Manchester Stadium, they are willing to make him the highest paid footballer in the club’s histroy with wages of £75,000 a week. Arteta joined Everton from Real Sociedad five years ago and has made giant strides during his tenure at Goodison Park. He returned to the first team after a knee ligament injury last January and quickly discovered rich vein of form which made him one of the Premier League’s best players.
