Arsenal seem to have won the race to sign the most sought after talent in English football – Southampton’s Alex Chamberlain. Arsene Wenger rates the 17-year old wonder-boy to be the brightest talent in English football and is ready to spend as much as £10 million for Chamberlain’s signature. Every major Premier League outfit including the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Newcastle have been showing interest in signing Chamberlain. It’ll be a major coup for Wenger if he persuades the midfielder to switch to the Emirates stadium.
Chamberlain reportedly visited the Arsenal training facility on Saturday along with his group of advisors. A fee of about £7 million is said to be agreed between the two clubs. Arsenal will most likely loan back Chamberlain to the Saints till the end of the season. Arsenal’s role in development of the careers of young players like Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey is said to have been the clinching factor in Chamberlain’s decision.
Alex is the son of former England winger Mark Chamberlain and has impressed everyone in England with his all-round midfield play. He has already scored six goals in twenty three games for Southampton and has a solitary England Under-18 cap to his name.
