Manchester United and Tottenham are involved in a huge battle to sign Aston Villa winger Ashley Young. Harry Redknapp, especially, is determined to bring the former Watford winger to White Hart Lane in an attempt to make a push for the Champions League spots. Tottenham are willing to offer cash plus players in order to secure his signature. Harry has indicated that he would be willing to part with Niko Kranjcar, Robbie Keane, Jamie O’Hara and Jonathan Woodgate in order to get hold of the diminutive winger.
Ashley Young has 18 months left on his current contract at Villa Park and is in no hurry to sign a new deal. He is content to let his contract run down and then leave the club on a free. Houllier is keen to cash-in on his prized asset before long.
Sir Alex Ferguson is also closely monitoring Young’s situation. He is readying a £13 million bid to sign Young in January. Sir Alex had also tried to sign Young from Watford in 2007 but Villa beat Manchester United to his signature back then.
