Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline. Villa have had a bid turned down for Genk striker Christian Benteke. The 21 year-old Belgian international has been in fine form this season for Genk scoring three goals in five appearances and also scoring for his country in their 4-2 victory over local rivals Netherlands.
Villa are expected to return with an increased bid for the highly-rated young striker. Everton boss David Moyes has also expressed an interest in the youngster in the past, but has other targets in mind for this window.
Villa are also showing an interest in Charlton midfielder Dale Stephens. The 24 year-old moved to the Addicks last summer and helped played a big role in the club being promoted to the Championship. It would be a rapid rise for a player who was playing League One football last season.
