Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid have appointed Quique Sanchez Flores as their new boss. He replaces Abel Resino who was sacked on Friday after a dreadful start to the season. Former Getafe boss Michael Laudrup turned down the opportunity, but Atletico have now found their new boss.
Flores has previously worked at Getafe and Valencia and has been appointed for the rest of the season with a view to a longer deal if he is successful. The club have won only one of their last ten games and suffered a 4-0 hammering against Chelsea in the Champions League.
Atletico are now bottom of their Champions League group. Former boss Abel Resino who only arrived at the Vicente Calderon in February insisted he did all he could to turn the clubs fortunes around. He said: “I gave it everything I have, but football is capricious and we are not getting the results we want. However, I am leaving with a clear conscience because I tried”
Flores will have to act quickly to change the doom and gloom around the club at the moment. They finished fourth in La Liga last season but he will face a challenge to get Atletico anywhere near the top of the table this season after that poor start to the season.
