Aston Villa are set to sign former Liverpool left back Fabio Aurelio on a free transfer. The versatile Brazilian defender who can slot into midfield with ease as well rejected the pay as you play deal offered by Liverpool earlier this month. Martin O’Neill is looking for some cover in the left back department and the 30-year old Aurelio who holds an Italian passport perfectly fits the bill. Aurelio will jostle for the starting spot with Stephen Warnock. Wilfred Bouma has left the club on a free and Nicky Shorey has been put up for sale.
O’Neill will also complete the signing of Tottenham’s Robbie Keane once the funds for the move are cleared up. Villa are waiting for Milner to complete his mega money switch to Manchester City before making an approach for the Republic of Ireland international. The £60,000-a-week wages demanded by keen do not pose a problem for the Villians. Martin O’Neill is also looking at Celtic winger Aiden McGeady to fill the void that will be left by the impending departure of James Milner.
